South West Coast Path - Langton Herring to Weymouth

This was the fifth stage of 10 days walk along the Jurassic Coast section of the South West Coast Footpath between Exmouth and Poole. This day saw a move of base camp to Bagwell Fram, Langton Herring from where we expected to continue the walk through to Lulworth. Luckily we were able to get on site early, arriving at 10:30 and enabling us to walk through to Weymouth with plenty of time to spare.

Path taken: Followed the South West Coasstal Footpath.

Pubs:

• The Ferrybridge Inn, Weymouth. pub standing on the Weymouth side of ferrybridge; The place was virtually deserted the lunchtime that we visited. No complaints about the Palmers ale served here, but the place did look like it was suffering from the lack of custom.
• The William Henry, Weymouth (http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/home/pubs/the-william-henry) A Weathersoons place so cheap beer! Good to see a selection of local ales and all very drinkable especially Dorset Gold!
• The Red Barn Bar and Grill, Bagwell Farm: (http://www.bagwellfarm.co.uk/red_barn_bar_and_grill.html) We decided to visit this on account of it serving Piddle beers. True, they had a pin of ale on the bar but it tasted stale. Together with the fact that the establishment closed at 9:30 was enough for us to not vist the place again.

Notes:The walk down into Weymouth was easy and it gave a sense of arrival after all the efforts of 4 days of hills and steep climbs. Weymouth is a typical british seaside town with much the same feel and atmosphere of Great Yarmouth. This is not my sort of place, I try to avoid populous areas and crowds. Nonetheless it was good to see a brand new section of coast out towards Lulworth and Purbeck. We also took the ferry across the harbour which was pleasant and managed to find information about bus times and access to the military range at Lulworth which the coastal footpath passes through. Unfortunately the bus we had been relying on to get into Lulworth to walk through the range would not stat running untill a month later which meant this part of the walk was going to be difficult to get to and from. The day ended with a bus back to Chickerell and a walk back to camp.
